Orthopaedic Surgery

An example of sports medicine is a medical doctor with a specialty in both internal medicine and sports medicine. Sports medicine surgeons are orthopaedic surgeons who can provide the complete comprehensive solution. They will diagnosis disorders that affect athletic performance and specialize in treating musculoskeletal injuries. In addition to performing surgical procedures, these professionals also offer nonsurgical treatments. This includes rehabilitation strategies and counseling on lifestyle changes that support recovery and assist in managing their condition.

Joint Replacement Surgery

problems in the bones. Joint replacement surgery replaces a damaged joint with a new one, most commonly seen in the knee, hip, and shoulder. An orthopaedic surgeon will not remove the whole joint, but will only replace or fix the damaged parts. Replacing a joint is used to relieve pain and increase your mobility. A new joint called a prosthesis, is made of plastic, metal, or ceramic parts. It may or may not be cemented in position to allow the bone to grow into it. This will keep the new joint in place.

However, primary malignancy of the bone requires the treatment from a highly specialized surgeon. Orthopaedic oncologist, are best to address these issues due to their increased knowledge and experience dealing with these rare and very serious tumors.
